Tips for starting your year well:

Be kind to yourself! Keep expectations of yourself for the first part of the year realistic.

Be grateful for what you have got and find something to enjoy and value every day – even the little things. (Life is short as I have been reminded by hearing of two or three friends finding theirs coming to an unexpected end.)

Goals and resolutions are not right for everyone. However, set yourself some small steps and a direction you want to move in and you will be surprised what you can achieve.

Share your goals and aims with friends and family. Encourage them to support and challenge you on these – and to keep you on track.

Look at your life and check which elements feel in balance, and which are out of balance. Do something about these!

What do you want more of, or less of, this year? Decide and write it down on several post it notes or in different places where you can keep seeing it.

Take action with things which you are dissatisfied with rather than just moaning or doing nothing!

It is your choice whether to see things as though the glass is half full – or half empty!

As you start your year, recognise you have the power to change you – not others.

Identify people and situations which leave you feeling drained or dragged down and only seem to trigger negative energy. Let go of them, or reduce all interactions, so stop getting these feelings.

Appreciate things more. These could be things around you or things people do.

Pay attention to what you can control, what you can influence and let go of things outside of this range.
